INVASIVE AQUATIC PLANTS

The BDTPA mission statement includes the following text:

“As a part of the core mission the association may educate and inform landowners, their guests and renters and other interested individuals on issues of water quality, invasive plants, and other environmental and safety concerns related to the three ponds and their supportive ecosystem.”

This page is intended to collect information about invasive aquatic plants on Basin, David, and Tilton Ponds.  With the presence of Swollen Bladderwort on Tilton Pond, we know that further infestations on Basin, David, and Tilton Ponds, and all surrounding ponds are certainly possible, so this page is an effort to report on nearby invasive plant spottings.  This list will unfortunately only get bigger.  If you have information to add to the list, please send a message to webmaster@bdtpa.org, along with photos or a link to the source of your information.

David Pond: See efforts to monitor David Pond for presence of Swollen Bladderwort.

Echo Lake and Parker Pond: Stigonema, a benthic cyanobacteria species, was discovered  in 2024 both Echo Lake and Parker Pond.

Cobbeseecontee Lake: Trapa natans, water chestnut, has been found not far from us.
